Tally Privacy Policy

Tally ("we," "our," "the app") is a calorie and macro tracker. This page explains what data the app touches and what happens to it, in plain language.

What stays on your device

Your profile — age, sex, height, weight, goal, activity level, and the daily calorie/macro budget calculated from them — is stored only in local storage on your device. It is never sent to, or stored on, any server we operate. There is no account system and no login, so we have no way to identify you or link your data to your name or email.

What gets sent off your device, and why

• Meal photos and descriptions are sent to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude API to identify food and estimate calories and macronutrients. The result is returned to your device and saved in your local meal log. Our server does not store, log, or retain the photo or the analysis — it acts purely as a pass-through to make the API call.
• Barcode lookups are sent to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a free, open nutrition database, to retrieve the product's nutrition label. No other data accompanies that request.

Notifications

If you start a free trial, Tally schedules a local, on-device reminder before it ends. This is handled entirely by iOS on your phone — it does not involve any server of ours and no data is transmitted to generate it.

Subscriptions and payment

Subscriptions are billed and processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. Purchase status is verified through RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, using an anonymous identifier tied to your device — not your name, email, or Apple ID.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data.
• We don't build advertising profiles.
• We don't require or collect an email address, name, or account of any kind.

Age requirement

Tally is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed at children.

Deleting your data

Since everything is stored locally, deleting the app deletes your data. Inside the app, Settings → Delete all data removes everything immediately without deleting the app itself.
